Horse Camping

This service is for people who want to bring their horses to the mountain, but who don’t want deal with pack horses and all of the headaches associated with them….  We have found that there are people like us who ride for fun and don’t want to ride a dude horse from someone else’s string. 

    “The Ultimate Horse Camping Experience”   Bring your horse and camp in the heart of the San Juan Mountains near Durango Colorado!!!  There is nothing better than riding your favorite horse while surrounded by 13 to 14 thousand foot peaks.  This trip is designed for the horsemen who wish to get into the backcountry without having to bring pack horses from home. 
 

     On your first day, we load your gear and camp food on pack horses to be carried to base camp.  Our base camp is set with large canvas wall tents complete with camp equipment to keep you comfortable.  We provide high lines to tie your horse at night.  Certified hay is also included.  
 

Since riding is what it’s all about, on the “Ultimate” trip, you will ride on trails throughout the Hermosa Creek Area of the San Juan National Forest in SW Colorado.  We at The Mangus 5 Outfitters would love show you some of the most beautiful places we ride.  Safety is always of utmost importance to us,  “Where trees are, trees fall…..”The Mangus 5 Outfitters make a conscious effort to keep the downfall cut from the trail.
 

Our day starts with a hearty breakfast around the campfire.  After saddling and loading lunches, we’ll head down the trail.    We can customize the difficulty and length of rides to accommodate the abilities of the horses as well as the riders. 

Mid to late afternoon, we’ll return to camp to enjoy a campfire supper and fellowship.  Please advise us of any special diet considerations.

     This trip is guaranteed to be the high light of your summer or fall.  Enjoy the backcountry with experienced horsemen who know the trail and who can provide a great experience to you and your horse without all of the work.
